Sylvan Shade Farm
(pronounced Syl-vane)
A diversified farm specializing in grass-fed highland beef, certified organic hay, and broiler chickens. The farm dates back to the 1800’s, and though operations have changed, values have not.
Missy with her husband Derrick Clifford bought the farm from Missy’s Grandparents in 2000. Missy Clifford is her family’s third generation on this land. Prior to 2000 the farm was a dairy farm and since Sylvan Shade Farm has expanded to become mostly self-sustainable. They maintain a flock of egg layers, broiler chickens, turkeys, and raise highland beef cattle. A large Cold Frame extends the growing season for vegetables, and they sell them when they have excess. Sweet corn, tomatoes and garlic are often plentiful.
Though farming is unpredictable, it’s also incredibly rewarding for us. It’s a labor of love. We love what you do. It’s so important for us to share this passion with people. When we sit down for dinner, we’ve raised the chicken, the beef, the potatoes, the corn – we know where it came from, we know where our food comes from start to end. Our two children are so spoiled with fresh food, that they won’t eat frozen or canned green beans or corn. If it’s not grown or raised on their farm, they’re not eating it!
